Take Me Out to the Bronx

Henry and I attended our first New York Yankees game in the Bronx tonight with friends, Colm and Eamonn.

I’ve got to be honest that I always thought if Henry were to express interest in baseball, I’d try to steer him towards Mets fandom since Yankees fans tend to be more arrogant and entitled. But Henry loved the atmosphere and had a great time so it looks like we could have a little Yankees fan here.

Colm and Eamonn, Minnesota natives and casual Twins fans, took it in stride when Alex Rodriguez hit a grand slam homerun in the seventh inning to give the Yankees the lead and eventual 8-4 win. Many thanks to Colm who organized and provided tickets.

  1. This is fantastic. I rember when Andrew took Gaige out to his first Goose hunt..the thing Daddy’s look forward to sharing with their sons! I love you guys.

  2. He looks like he had a great time! I know I love taking my son to baseball games! Something about baseball, and Yankees!! Love you guys! Now we can all go next time we come!

  3. Love these photos! So nice of your friends to organize this outing and get the tickets. Henry looks so excited to be there! So neat that they provide a “First Game Certificate.” Many, many moons ago, when I was 8 or 10, Henry’s Great-grandpa Henry took me to a New Orleans Pelican’s baseball game and I was excited just to be there with my dad. But I think it’s been a long time since the Pelicans team existed. If Henry will be a Yankee’s fan, so will Gamma Lois 🙂

    • I knew there was a minor-league baseball team called the Pelicans decades ago.

The NBA team in N.O. recently changed their name from Hornets to Pelicans, so technically it’s possible to watch the New Orleans Pelicans play again – just playing a different sport.
