Henry and I stopped at the Mmuseumm in August. He has been talking about it several times since so we decided to take a leisurely stroll and stop in again today. It is a really interesting tiny museum that sits inside an old freight elevator that opens to Cortlandt Alley. The ally itself is used as a set for many movie and photo shoots. Years ago I walked by the area on my way to work every day and sometimes stopped to try to figure out what movie was being filmed and spotted a few celebrities too.
Washington Market Park shows a few movies outdoors at the end of September and last week Henry and I went to see The Princess Bride. Henry really liked Andre the Giant. Mark was able to join us for The Karate Kid this week. It is a nice, free event in our neighborhood.
We attended the annual food fest, Taste of Tribeca, in our neighborhood on Saturday. This was Henry’s third time attending and our eighth. This is one of our favorite yearly events and it is also a chance to support the local schools. Henry was Spiderman for the day and enjoyed wearing the sword he received from a nice lady making balloon animals for the kids.
Today we headed down the street to the Tribeca Film Festival Family Street Fair. It is held annually as part of the Tribeca Film Festival. It is a nice opportunity for kids to take part in the festival with mostly free activities and games for all ages. Henry enjoyed the bubbles and kite building, but was also content to sit and color near the Back to the Future exhibit.
Today we marched in the Annual Washington Market Park Halloween Parade. Neighborhood kids and parents march down Greenwich Street in costumes and enter the park for a variety of Halloween activities. My sister and I almost participated last year, but both our kids fell asleep in their strollers before it started. Henry may have been tired this year too because he didn’t seem very excited about the events today.
Bastille Day festivities were held throughout the week, including a pétanque tournament that started in our neighborhood on Friday.
